Indeed, in the years after WWII and until I was a kid some mums would just put a bowl on their kid's head and cut any hair that stuck out from under the bowl. It was a very cheap and easy hair cut and was called a pudding bowl cut or bowl cut. Of course it always looked horrid (and was a primary cause of gwooks, as defined by Tim Gander in his "Book of Words wot I made Up Vol I"). Especially if the kid had to wear national health glasses, which didn't become cool until John Lennon started wearing his wire-rim glasses.
That was quite a train of thought there, I feel light-headed now and I may have to sit down
ok, in english, thats called a "bowl cut" u know. the more i talk to you, the more i'm not really sure about you. you have lots of words. u'r probably make one up about me even as we speak. like cheeky mare or something.

Gosh, well my brother reminded me of a word I invented as a kid. "Gwook" is that egg-shaped hair style (when viewed from the side) on a schoolboy whose hair has been cut in a pudding-bowl style, combined with straight, un-layered hair. As in "look at that boy's gwook!"
Or "noonyack" (pronounced noo-nee-yack) was another of mine, which meant a school child who was an excitable idiot. As in "he's a complete noonyack, that boy with the gwook."
I often miss the messages that appear on my profile. There's no alert, and they're often hidden off-screen, under the journal.
I think cheeky mare is just a northern expression. Whether it comes from mare as-in female horse, I can only guess. It's usually said with some affection though, so please don't take it as an insult!
Hello Tim. Thank you so much for the . I appreciate it! (and just so you know, i only watched you cuz i think you're funny, not cuz i like your photography. )
